Point Of No Return?

June 3, 2009 @ 00:34 By Gavin Webber 2 Comments

Are we at the point of no return?  Have we passed a tipping point, and have changed the climate of the planet irreversibly?

I hope not, but I think it is about time that we all remind ourselves what is really at stake here.  It is OURSELVES, and life on Earth as we know it.

This is not a new message, however it is one that needs to be reinforced once in a while.

Enjoy, and remember that by doing one little thing to help lower your carbon emissions, is one step closer to keep the planet habitable for future generations to come.

While the planet may still have a chance I think that the human race has hit the point of no return. Our attitudes and refusal on a large scale to change our behaviours will ultimately bring the planet to it’s tipping point.

The planet has gone through this warming before, why else would Greenland be called Greenland. The difference this time is that the planet won’t recover, because of us, our greed, our ignorance, our arrogance and our complete disregard for the consequences of our actions. We are like the spoilt child who has never learnt to share. The human race has passed the point where they can prevent the Earth’s point of no return.

I wish I had more faith in us but I don’t. I hope I am proven wrong.

I agree its not a new message – but it is one that needs to be repeated again and again – because so few are listening.

I’m afraid i am as pessimistic as Nevyn. I think we have reached the point of no return – humans may survive – but our quality of life will get worse and worse.

I believe we are too selfish to stop exploiting even once well beyond the point of no return.
