TGoG Podcast 070 – Climate Reality Leadership Day 2-3

June 27, 2014 @ 22:30 By Gavin Webber 3 Comments

A longer wrap-up from days two and three of the Climate Reality Leadership training.

[spp-player]The Greening of Gavin Podcast

What an amazing two days!  I am now officially a Climate Reality Leader (I have the certificate to prove it), and now my goal is to go out and perform 10 acts of leadership during the next 12 months.

The acts of leadership can be as simple as a blog post, or a podcast episode, or webinar, or even a letter to the editor.  However, I will try to present a few of the Al Gore type slide shows over the year, because I believe that is important to communicate this message as well.

Anyway, I took a few photos, but they didn’t turn out very well, so I have embedded quite a few pictures taken by other Climate Reality Leaders who tweeted about the event. Follow them on twitter if you like!

Watching The Deniers

May 14, 2013 @ 22:50 By Gavin Webber 4 Comments

The other day I was really encouraged when mainstream media broke the story about Global carbon dioxide levels on the 11th May.  Mind you, I beat them to the punch with my article on 7th.

Just saying…..

Well that was until yesterday.  Just when I thought that people were starting to ‘get it’, I saw this article written by well know climate change denier Andrew Bolt in the Herald Sun newspaper yesterday, titled “Signs that warming scare is all hot air“.  It was a full page spread and the paper has a circulation of around 2 million readers here in Melbourne.  My readership could never match such distribution (even though it would be nice).

I could not believe my eyes.  I thought it must have been April Fools Day, but alas, it wasn’t.  Climate change denial is alive and well in this Murdoch rag.

Irony

Anyway, without getting too hot under the collar, I have also been reading a great blog.  In fact it is an excellent blog, called “Watching The Deniers“, which is written by Mike Marriott, who lives here in Melbourne as well.

As the title of his blog says, he reports on the antics of climate change deniers, here in Australia and abroad correcting the lies with facts.  This quote from his blog sets the scene.

““Belief” is a troubling word when used within the context of the climate debate.

Frequently people will ask me “Do you believe in climate change?” as if it is a matter of personal opinion.

I always answer (politely of course) “I accept the 97% consensus of climate scientists”. My personal views are of no consequence to the reality of climate change – it is simply what the overwhelming evidence has told me.”

Right on!  Anyway back to the Bolt.  Mike is taking Andrew to task with a series of rebuttals over the next few weeks.  Factual, and not emotive, unlike Mr Bolt.

Keep an eye out for updates over on Mike’s blog http://watchingthedeniers.wordpress.com/.  Also, while you are there, read some of the comments.  They crack me up.

I am sure it will be informative, accurate, and put a smile back on my face.

End Factory Farming

October 22, 2012 @ 20:09 By Gavin Webber 13 Comments

I believe in a world without factory farming.  If you thought that factory farming only happened overseas, then you don’t have the full picture.

This video will open your eyes to how your chicken, eggs and pork is raised, and how we can make factory farming a thing of the past.

If you care about the welfare of all animals, then this video is a must watch, all the way to the end.
Go to Make it Possible and pledge to make a difference.  Lets end factory farming in Australia.  If you have a blog please consider posting this video to your blog.

Please, for the sake of these voiceless animals.  A life worth living has got to be a worthy goal.
