Green Lifestyle Award Night – Virtual Attendance

October 9, 2013 @ 20:30 By Gavin Webber 22 Comments

Well tonight was the big night where local businesses and people are recognised at the Green Lifestyle Awards.  In fact, as you read this, the event has finished and all the winners have been announced.

As you may remember, I was nominated by many readers way back in May, and for that I cannot thank you enough.  The response from you all was simply amazing.

Guess what?  I won!

Yes folks, yours truly won the “Local Green Hero” category, and came runner up in the “Online Eco Info Site” category.  I am chuffed to bits, and it is all because of you.  I am humbled.

So here is my virtual acceptance speech, which I believe was shown at the Green Lifestyle Awards ceremony in Sydney.  I produced this video because I chose not to travel to due to it my self imposed carbon budget, which would have been blown away by two flights.  I believe that if you talk the talk, you must walk the walk.  I strongly stand by my values and actions.

There you have it.  A big moment in my life and that of this blog.  The full details of all the winners and runners up will be announced in the next issue (Nov/Dec) of Green Lifestyle magazine.  Watch for it at newsagents around the 18th of October for those who live in Australia.

For those new to the blog, and want to learn about my sustainable living journey, you can download a free copy of my first eBook “The Greening of Gavin – My First Year of Living Sustainably” at my eBookstore page.  Or you could check out my blog archive located on the right hand sidebar and start from the very first post and work your way back.

So, onwards and upwards my friends.  Stay tuned for more Greening of Gavin.  There is lots of life in this blog and I.

Congratulations Gav. Well deserved. The Winner of the Online Eco Site certainly has alot to live up to if he beat you. Oh Well, i know you are not in this for accolades but for the greening of our world, one person at a time.

Thanks Lynda. Yes, not in it for the accolades, just want to spread the message far and wide, and awards like this one are one of the best ways to do that. I do, however, really appreciate the recognition.

Aww So excited for you Gavin & Kim!
To think when you started this journey, you probably had no idea these awards even existed 🙂 I’m excited for what 2014 holds for you both. Keep the good news coming!

Thanks BR. I am excited too! You know, I didn’t even think of things like this when I first started blogging. Just trying the best I could to let people know how easy it was to live a sustainable lifestyle.

And just to think that Kim and I were sitting in the front orchard today, on our favourite bench, saying to each other that ripping up the lawn and planting fruit trees instead was the one of the best decisions we ever made!

BZ! I’m so glad you got recognition for the way you’ve been leading by example all these year. A local hero indeed – and define local please – your example inspires not just those in your home town and country but so many of us here on the blog who are outside Australia. Way to go!

Well done Gavin. Wonderful that you received the recognition for what you are doing, and for the opportunity to spread the word that this accolade gives. Thanks for posting your acceptance speech. Keep on keeping on.

Cheers Jean. They thought my speech was ‘cute’. I had to re-do it twice, and was so nervous. Don’t know why, because I am usually pretty good in front of a microphone and camera.

congrats Gavin and Family. you really spur me on. I cant wait to move to our new home and the first thing in my new garden? 1 clay oven. When we christen it, we will have home made beer and salute you. I never knew that you could build one at home. Thanks for the years of inspiration

Cheers Sol. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of your oven if you are happy to share once constructed. The beer tastes so much better in front of the fired oven, eating home made pizza!
