Fixing the Vegie Patch

June 13, 2016 @ 19:40 By Gavin Webber 3 Comments

What happens when you neglect your vegie patch?  Well, it gets taken over by weeds of course.  Thankfully I managed to schedule a good couple of hours in the garden today; weeding, harvesting, and fixing the vegie patch.

There were so many weeds for the chooks to devour and even a few radishes that I found lurking in the beds.

I decided to document it with a regular video update on my new YouTube channel, so here is 9 minutes of my sunny afternoon in the vegie patch!

On Wednesday, I will be planting my garlic, broad beans, and snow peas.  I will record that gardening session so you can see what’s going on.

I plan on doing one each weekend so that you can see the patch develop over time.  It should be a fun project and keep me and anyone watching motivated to spend some time growing food in the garden.

Let me know if you liked this format.  It was easy to put together and as they say, a picture, or in this case a video, is worth a thousand words.

Growing Heirloom Tomatoes

February 1, 2015 @ 22:37 By Gavin Webber Leave a Comment

I know that I go on about heirloom tomatoes, but they are just so delicious.

The real tomato flavour.  The sweet flesh.  The different tastes per cultivar.  I could go on and on.

Anyway, I took the opportunity today to record the next gardening video, which focuses on growing heirloom tomatoes, and what I have ripening in my own tomato patch.

Even though the weather has been very mild so far this summer, thankfully all the tomatoes are still growing and producing new fruit.  Mind you, I am never one to complain about a mild summer.

So without further ado, here is the video titled “Growing Heirloom Tomatoes”.   http://youtu.be/RGRJQ4Bn9gA

Chicken Hygiene – Suburban Food Farm Video

January 25, 2015 @ 22:40 By Gavin Webber 3 Comments

This week’s video is about chicken hygiene and some basic tips to keep your feathered girls healthy.

Chooks are very easy to keep clean and just need a bit of attention daily in the form of fresh water and feed, a clean coop once a fortnight along with a quick inspection.  It only takes about 30 minutes a week to look after them.

Don’t forget to give them lots of fresh kitchen scraps and leftover fruit, along with greens from the garden.  That way they will get all the nutrients they need to live a long and fruitful life providing your family with lots of yummy eggs, as well as great fertilizer for the garden!

If you found value in this video, don’t forget to share it, using the buttons below, with others who might also benefit.
