Green Lifestyle Awards 2014

September 30, 2014 @ 21:21 By Gavin Webber Leave a Comment

logo-bigNot wanting to sound big-headed but my term as Green Lifestyle Awards 2013 – Local Green Hero is coming to an end.

The new recipient will be announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday 16th October, whereby I hand over the baton via a pre-recorded video message.  I know who it is, but am sworn to secrecy.  Mums the word until the 17th.

I was invited to attend, however due to work commitments, and wanting to keep my carbon footprint low, I graciously declined the invitation.  It was a bit too far to travel to Sydney for a two-hour ceremony.

So I am very excited for the next Local Green Hero, because this year has been so much fun for me.  So many opportunities, and so much greening.  Like the Climate Reality Leadership Corps.  I am sure that it certainly helped my chances when I added the Green Lifestyle award to the application form.

I will record the video over the weekend which will document some of the great things that have happened during the year.  Look out for the announcement and the video soon.  I will post them both the day after the awards night.

Congratulations to all those who have been nominated and good luck on the night!

Everyday Green Hero – Green Lifestyle Mag

April 29, 2014 @ 20:55 By Gavin Webber 12 Comments

I am humbled to announce that my green transformation story features in another national magazine this month in an article titled Everyday Green Hero.  The publication is Green Lifestyle Magazine, and is a profile written as part of the 2013 Green Lifestyle Awards.

Not one to blow my trumpet (much), I am very pleased with the two page article written by Tierri Abraham, which featured in the May/June issue.  She captured the essence of our journey to date.

I conducted the interview a few months back via email, and answered the questions sent to me to the best of my ability.  Not a bad way of conducting an interview by the way, because I could really think about the message I wanted people to read.  Hopefully it comes across okay.

I have purposefully cut off the story in the image due to copyright, so if you would like to read the story, I am sure it will surface on their website soon, www.greenlifestylemag.com.au, or better still, visit your local newsagent and buy a copy or subscribe online.

If you are worried about the paper and the carbon emissions from the magazine’s production, rest assured that the text pages are printed on 100% post-consumer recycled stock, and the cover is 45% FSC certified fibre and 55% recycled post consumer waste.  All manufactured Process Chlorine free!  Additionally, Green Lifestyle purchases carbon credits to offset the magazine’s greenhouse gas footprint.

While we are talking about carbon credits, there is a really good article in the magazine about Carbon Offset Basics, written by my buddy, Greg Foyster of Changing Gears fame.  The article is well written and is now my go-to reference for carbon credits.

In fact the entire issue is well-rounded and very informative.  Worth a read, if I do say so myself.

banner4While we are on the subject of Green Lifestyle Awards, the 2014 Awards are now open for nominations.  If you think this blog The Greening of Gavin is worthy for an award nomination again this year, please pop over to the nomination page to submit your nomination.  Select the Nominate a business, producer or service that I have used button and may I suggest the Online Eco Info Site category if you are struggling to select one?

If not, no problem at all, but take some time to nominate your favourite green business or person while you are there.  There are so many to choose from that are doing great work.  Just by submitting a nomination you could WIN a four-night stay at Paperbark Camp, valued at over $3,000!  Sounds like a very cool prize.

Anyway, I am a firm believer that if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

As always, thanks for reading.  I appreciate each and every one of you for dropping by the blog, day after day, year after year.  You are my inspiration!

Green Lifestyle Award Night – Virtual Attendance

October 9, 2013 @ 20:30 By Gavin Webber 22 Comments

Well tonight was the big night where local businesses and people are recognised at the Green Lifestyle Awards.  In fact, as you read this, the event has finished and all the winners have been announced.

As you may remember, I was nominated by many readers way back in May, and for that I cannot thank you enough.  The response from you all was simply amazing.

Guess what?  I won!

Yes folks, yours truly won the “Local Green Hero” category, and came runner up in the “Online Eco Info Site” category.  I am chuffed to bits, and it is all because of you.  I am humbled.

So here is my virtual acceptance speech, which I believe was shown at the Green Lifestyle Awards ceremony in Sydney.  I produced this video because I chose not to travel to due to it my self imposed carbon budget, which would have been blown away by two flights.  I believe that if you talk the talk, you must walk the walk.  I strongly stand by my values and actions.

There you have it.  A big moment in my life and that of this blog.  The full details of all the winners and runners up will be announced in the next issue (Nov/Dec) of Green Lifestyle magazine.  Watch for it at newsagents around the 18th of October for those who live in Australia.

For those new to the blog, and want to learn about my sustainable living journey, you can download a free copy of my first eBook “The Greening of Gavin – My First Year of Living Sustainably” at my eBookstore page.  Or you could check out my blog archive located on the right hand sidebar and start from the very first post and work your way back.

So, onwards and upwards my friends.  Stay tuned for more Greening of Gavin.  There is lots of life in this blog and I.
