Planting Painted Mountain Corn

January 8, 2015 @ 19:13 By Gavin Webber 7 Comments

As promised during yesterday’s podcast episode, here is the first in the “How To” garden series or as I hope it will become better known as the Suburban Food Farm series.

Let me know what you think, and if you have any specific items that you would like to learn about, then let me know via comment.  The corn was generously given to me by Jessie (aka Rabid Little Hippy).

Oh, and if you like what you see, share via the social media buttons below.

Yours in videography,

Gav

Given the warmth of the soil and the moisture in the soil and the air, I reckon you’ll see those first little green points well within a fortnight. I can’t wait to see how they grow. Mine are doing really well and almost all flowering and in silks at the moment. The plants are pretty too as they reflect the colours of the corn in the flowers and leaves somewhat too.

I better check tonight when I get home! I was talking to a friend on the train this morning who also planted painted mountain last Thursday, and he said his seedlings are already a few centimetres high. x

Given the pretty perfect germination weather yesterday – moist and warm – I wouldn’t be much surprised to see your garden with green points up already. x

I have planted this corn variation for the first time this season. It’s enjoyable to watch and learn as they grow.

Hi Sarhn. As this is my first time with this variety, we can learn together!

Argh! Planted pumpkins and didn’t even think of doing a 3 sisters bed…
    Idiot!!
Ah well, the good thing about gardening is that there’s always next year. 🙂
