Today’s post is over at the Simple Green Frugal Co-op, and is titled “Frugal Food Like The Old Days“. My love of the humble scone comes to light, as does my ingrained habit of taking a home cooked lunch to work at least four days a week. It saves me a blooming fortune, and I get to use the yummy jam I make, with lashings of cream.
Simple pleasures are the best!

I read your contribution on Simple Green Frugal C0-op and thoroughly agree with everything you say. A friend of mine makes her own granola and then when anyone in the family needs to take a lunch, she puts some granola in a plastic bowl with a lid and adds some milk powder. At lunch time they just add water, give it a stir, and just like that they have delicious granola with milk. Here’s the granola recipe she uses.
Granola (ex Dawn Buchanan)
1. Pre-mix:
8 cups rolled oats
3 cups stone ground whole wheat flour
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup coconut
2. Pre-mix and stir into dry ingredients.
1¼ cups boiling water
1 cup oil
1/3 cup honey
Spread onto trays and place in oven at 350 F (175 C) stirring often (approx every 5 mins) for about 45 mins total.
When cool add raisins, dried cranberries or what have you.
Suggestion: When taking a quantity for lunch, put sufficient in a container and add milk powder. At lunch time just add water for a nice granola with milk lunch.
