Always the Bridesmaid, Never the Bride…

June 19, 2010 @ 19:51 By Gavin Webber 12 Comments

Well, I had a great evening last night at the KABV Sustainable Cities awards.  It was like the Academy Awards for greenies!  Myf Warhurst was the host for the evening and did a fantastic job.  I met up with so many friends, old and new, and it was just like a big green gathering.

Anyway, enough waffle.  Did I win my category?  Well as the title suggests, no I didn’t.  I was pipped at the post by a compostable nappy.  Here is my finalist certificate which I will always treasure and it hangs proudly in my study.

More great news.  Melton Shire won the overall award, Sustainable City 2010.  We were all ecstatic about the win.  Unfortunately, I didn’t take my camera, so we have to wait for the official photographs for the evening which I will share with you when I get them.  It is a night that I shall always remember.

Gavin

Hey, you shouldn’t have been pipped by a compostable nappy, cloth is better than compostable.

    Glad you enjoyed yourself though.

Hmm, my word ver’ is ‘squeed’ lol. Sounds vaguely nappysih…

    Cat,

I agree. I couldn’t see what all the fuss was about personally. I used cloth for all my kids, and when they are finally done, the worms got the remnants! Thinking outside the square is what really should have been rewarded. But now I sound like a sore looser! I will stop being bitchy now.

A compostable nappy. isn’t that another name for cloth? I don’t get it.

I’m glad you had a good night even though you didn’t win but as far as I’m concerned you’re hands down a Winner for changing your life and so many other people’s lives for the better. Yay Gavin!

Great news, Gav, and well done!

You should change your blog’s subhead to “The Next Best Thing To Compostable Nappies”. 🙂

oh Gavin…. it brings a tear to my eye to see how great a bloke you have become…. not that I knew you before! That is not what I meant at all… we all kind of started at the same time though, you and Pattie (at Foodshed Planet) and us in Adelaide, and have blogged our way through thick and thin, united, and I feel like we are all on the same team, cheering for each other. Well done Melton! And Atlanta. Next, Cygnet!

Not everyone can say they were beaten by a nappy. Congratulations on your award!
