Green 70’s Week – Stop And Think

December 6, 2008 @ 07:15 By Gavin Webber 3 Comments

It always puzzles me when people give cut flowers as a gift to a loved one.  I personally give potted flowers because they last much longer, and when the recipient waters the plant, they think of the wonderful person that gave it to them.  It also reduces your carbon footprint because cut flowers are often raised in heated greenhouses or transported from interstate or overseas, just so that we can have cut blooms all year round.

Food for thought and the final in the green 70’s week series.

Enjoy!

My favourite flowers to give are ones to my mum from my rosebush. It’s a potted bush given to me from a close family friend as a thank you present – it was a cutting from a plant from the early 20s or 30s! I rarely water it and never fertilise it yet it still thrives and gives me beautiful flowers to give away. 🙂

I remember another blogger (Julie from Crazy Mumma I think) tried to find sustainable cut blooms for table centrepieces – I don’t think she ever suceeded, it just wasn’t possible.
