I haven't had a lot of time spare lately - getting things organised (painting mostly) for the baby has absorbed all my time so I regret I didn't have a look at your cheese book until just now when I woke up early this morning, but I wanted to say - Fantastic work! I've never made cheese before and now I seriously can't wait until I do, this book is amazing! So much great work here, and Kim's drawings are really something else too! You should be really proud.

It has the personal touch, where he speaks of his reasons behind wanting to start making cheese in the first place; I found this more interesting than what other authors start their books with. You know that story about the poor nomad who had to put milk in a lamb’s stomach; he is using for a canteen and then goes sloshing about the dessert and voila cheese! This book is the best I have ever read on sustainability in and around the home. It is funny, easy to read and dotted with great illustrations by the writers wife. Oh yes and the 'what i'd do differently' section of each chapter was really helpful for a novice like me starting out my first veg patch!

I really enjoyed this book. The author has broken his first year of learning to live "green" into practical sections like "Waste" and "Water Conservation", describing his actions in that first year in each category. Each chapter finishes with a "What I'd Do Now" section, which were my favourite parts. If you've followed the blog, you'll appreciate the opportunity to see how it all began in an easy to read format. If you're new to Gavin Webber's story, you're lucky - this is a great way to discover how an ordinary bloke living an average life started to make changes that significantly reduced his carbon footprint.

When a blogger is as prolific as Gavin is, it can be hard to piece it all together from blog posts done over several years' time.
I particularly enjoyed the "what I'd do differently" review of each chapter's topic. As we all know, hindsight is 20/20 and this feature gives us the benefit of Gavin's learning curve.
It's easy to get lost in the green-washing propaganda put out by our corporate overlords, but Gavin's book clearly lays out concrete actions that almost anyone can take to achieve measurable benefits for themselves, their families and the planet. It's nice to see that a bit of celebrity has come Gavin's way as well, as his story has gotten a fair bit of press and has likely inspired others to follow in his footsteps.

This delightful little e-book is a good recipe for two kinds of fun: building a dome oven, and cooking in it. As you read, you can hear Gavin chatting to you about it, explaining things in simple, no nonsense terms.
The illustrative photographs make the book easy to use.
The step by step instructions are meticulously thought out and clearly presented. I wish I had instructions this detailed for building my first house!
His choice of materials and techniques were environmentally sound. For example, he used clay dug out from his own soil (during the construction of Cluckingham Palace, the place for the chooks), and when he could, he got free or second hand bricks and things. This is a good example to follow.
I approve of a lifestyle of doing things for yourself, living a varied, full life instead of the one-dimensional existence most people unthinkingly follow. Although building an oven in your backyard may superficially seem like a luxury, it is not. It is part of returning to the meaningful, enjoyable way of doing things humans evolved to do.
